Pastor's Update

On March 15th 2009 Concord began to worship in the newly transformed room in our own house that has been the home of offices and mid-week meeting for years.  It is wonderful to be able to leave our music equipment set up in our very own space.  We believe that from this worship location we will see the construction of our church building take place in the near future.  Our desire to reach out and impact the community around us.

We have come to understand that being people on the move is not an obstacle of  becoming what we are ultimately meant to be but this is our God given identity.  We are people on a journey of faith. We have become certain that even when we have a permanent building that we should never lose the heart that we are on a journey.  The church is the base camp not the destination.  It is the place to reconnect, be fed, rest, equipped and sent out into the world.

Looking back over the past five years we are reminded in some ways of the wandering wilderness journey of Israel.   From party house to tent, to elementary school to tent, to universtiy chapel, (with occasional services at the Methodist Theological School)  and another summer in the tent on the Home Road office property and finally a shared church building.   We are grateful to the people of Highland Presbyterian Church who welcomed us in September of 2008 when our tent was destroyed by hurricane winds.  We have learned with certaintly that the church is the people of God.

Concord has been identified by the members of the Presbytery and the community as a whole as a church that is passionate about missions. We are dedicated to mission service locally, nationally, and internationally. Our partnership in Africa has accomplished more than we "could ask or imagine".   A Thanksgiving mission trip to Mississippi to help in the construction of homes lost in hurricane Katrina offers a hands-on national mission opportunity.  Many are involved in local outreaches such as provisions for food pantries, coats for the homeless,  and personal needs for the poor.

One of the most amazing recent joys is to serve as a sister congregation to an Ethiopian immigrant faith fellowship.  The people of Concord know all too well the challenges of new church development and we consider it an honor and privilege to walk along side a group of faithful Christains from the Oromo tribe who desire to become the Presbytery of Scioto Valley's newest congregation.

Thank you for understanding that the purpose of church is “the equipping of the saints for the work of God”.  As a pastor, I have felt a renewed sense of call to prayer and have been praying with other pastors and people of the community, members of Concord, and in solitude.  I am honored to serve this body of faithful followers.

If you are not already a part of Concord Church please, come join us on this exciting and challenging faith journey.
